Way down in the bottom
Of a hole
Filled with water
Is a piece of peace
Just five minutes from the bustling downtown
Up West Chester way.
The seat where I sit
Is under the sun
Which continues its leftward journey
Towards sunset while
Clouds offer brief breaks of shade
In their move to the right.
Out there somewhere in the East,
The sky is dark, cool sand prevails, and
Night is calming the day’s energy down.
Whatever… The sand at the bottom of this pit
Is raked and feels so good on my feet.
A couple kids are floating on the ancestral log,
A reminder of the reason for this place
Where stones to build that far away downtown
Were pulled from
Way down is this hole.
