Perspectives: 33/365

Robert Woods (A Local Dude)

So this is it,
Former athletes,
Overly protective parents,
Generally unhappy people,
And a guy who is obsessed with golf
Want to replace the Taylorville High School sports program
With a cutting of funds
That will be applied to music and band.

I’m not sure how this is going,
I’m not sure what the point is,
But I am sure of this,
People are going to have difficult discussions,
They are going to have to confront issues
They may have never considered.

By jumping whole hog into an adversarial advocacy
This group of eight has drawn lines
That Taylorville, the quaint want to be town,
May not ever be able crossed.

Music vs sports,
Oh, boy…

  1. Yes and no… Music & PE = classes for all, Band & Sports=extracurricular/after school (not required, usually tryouts are involved). No national curriculum and in US requirements vary by state. Local school districts can implement state guidelines in any manner they wish in so far as they meet the state’s requirement.

  2. Isn’t there a state or national curriculum requiring all students at high school (and primary school ) have physical education of some kind ? And that includes team sports ?
