July 14, 1863 (The Draft Riots)

nyriot

Plunder became part of the game
When the angry mob decided to fight.
Civil War conscription incited these people to shame
An angry New York City burned through the night.

When the angry mob decided to fight,
They knew not who to blame,
So New York City burned through the night
And the police stations were seriously scorched by the flames.

The mob knew not who to blame,
Their cause lost in a disastrous riotous might
With the police stations being seriously scorched by the flames
By people not understanding protest must be done right.

Causes lost in such riotous sights
Make people ponder of what righteousness became
Especially when people do not understand that protest must be done right,
Lest we repeat the mistakes in history’s name.
