The first time I went to Hardee’s,
The lines were outrageous.
The town was packed
Because Gerald Ford was around
To make a speech or
Maybe trip on a brick sidewalk.
I don’t know,
I was eight.
Besides the crowd,
I remember the dining area sign,
“We thank you for throwing your trash away.”
So nice… Classy…
The menu would evolve, the service never did,
Whether burgers or biscuits,
Sweet tea, barely indistinguishable from glucose,
Was the wash.
Breakfast or lunch,
It did not matter
I always threw my trash away.

(FWIW: I think the President went to Pierce’s that day.)
