The playing out of dementia on TV,
Where the actors were playing for real,
Not following some script,
Made for hard watching.
A superstar being filmed
As his faculties went the way
Of the memories he worked so hard
Deep inside though,
The music held on
Allowing us the chance
To enjoy his greatness one last time.
Thank goodness for this film.
Too often we only see the tragedy
Circulating through the world’s violence and war and
Thinking there might be a cure in those conversations
Too often we don’t talk about
Finding the ways to help
Manage the inevitability
Of the end of our lives.
Being able to hang onto our passions,
Sharing them with our families
While maintaining relevance and dignity,
Is just as important as anything else.
Be well Campbell family.
