Moving energy,
Perhaps the hardest expenditure,
Tipping furniture, loading trucks,
But it’s the memories
That are hardest to hoist,
For each load is full contradictions
Presented as happy-sad tears.
A chair, a bed, a table
Each getting another life in another home.
Those that stay with us
Keep the memory of this home
Alive in our souls,
Right where such feelings of family
Should stay.
So we lift and lug,
Carrying the accumulations of life
To a place where their lives will continue,
As we go on,
Managing this life
While holding out for our futures
In our next home.
