Laying out my cow licks
For my first hair cut with Charlie
Must have been traumatic for her.
She held her fear back well,
Although there was a tremble
To her voice.
She went Scissorhands on the mop
Cutting furiously and carefully
Finally stepping back
To wipe the sweat from both our brows
And said, “I don’t know which way it goes.”
I had to laugh,
Really it’s only hair
And I’ve got enough gel or a hat
To fix whatever unevenness her clipping ground.
I then answered, “Whichever way it wants, not to worry.”
She did the cleanup,
Brought out the mirror
That I pretended to look at,
And then paid.
Before leaving we had a laugh.
I went on my way,
She went to the next customer.
