Today was something else
The rat race can be so hard
But after a two-hour delay and
The blank stares of students
With the late start malaise
I took to my afternoon commute.
Before two callers to sports talk radio
Could make their innane points
About the state of the Eagles
After the trade of a very good player
I set out with job number one.
Now the dog is walked,
His fur dry after braving the winter rain
His legs tucked in nap position
After working over the rope ball
Like Sugar Ray giving Hagler
A crazy flurry at the end of their big fight.
I thought I’d change it up a little
Sipping a chai latte on the couch
Instead of the normal dark roast
Because as I am finding right now
Both go well with Rocky Mountain Way
And this relaxed aura
My short commute and easy attitude
Allow me on this afternoon
Before the next big March snowstorm.
