So ferocious at trivial pursuits
Is inept at the future uses for today’s knowledge
The questions of relevance
Couched in requests for less rigor
Make for particularly trying times
The lessons are not always obvious
Nor are they always about content.
Learning how to live is part of the process
The responsibility of which
Comes easy to those able to see
Past school’s annoyance
I hope my kids understand
The time for knowledge is when it’s needed
The rest is practice and preparation
