A Man

The man stood there
Dapperly dressed in a suit of pinstripes
And coifed in a worn fedora
His skin weathered from the years,
Toughened by a lifetime of intolerance
That never shook his pride
In who he was.
The disappointment he felt
Was for the racists and their wasted lives
Spent hating the human palette
He survived the laws
He endured despite the biases
He succeeded while facing discrimination
All in a pinstripe suit
And his signature fedora
Most assuredly a man’s man.
