Hidden Data

Deeper into days of technology
Farther from days of running
Drastically inspired by analytics
Farther from the days of having fun

This obsession with all that measurable
Data driving the intelligence of our day
Is leaving out the smart that is our soul
And getting out there and taxing our bodies

The stork that brought the egg head
Who thinks numbers matter more than anything
Flew from a coup that just doesn’t add up
Life is more than than profits, school scores, or revenues

Intangibles
The outliers that make life exciting
Wrinkles, laughter, smiles
All coming without the need for some data point

Each expressed freely
Without the burden of tallying, significance, or mining
And I’m just wishing
We could return to those school days of old
