Goodness gracious
The rain held back
Letting me get caught up
With all the outdoor stuff
My students wanted to get done

So rarely are they motivated to exercise
But these last couple of weeks
When the points are public
The competition real
And the reward tangible
Pride seems to have kicked in and
Their effort is as it should be

Not that all of the students are juiced
Some are showing the strain of pressure from failure
But they are not quitting and are working
Beyond their misfortune

Resilience, perhaps the most important quality
In a world that creates obstacles
In every straight away
Resilience, the power
To get back at it
Even when the plates are too heavy to carry
Over those last thirty yards

Hopefully the weather will continue to
Cooperate
The kids sure are.
