The State of Things (#22)

“I’m done.”

That sentiment is all around
The students
The teachers
The principals
The parents
Each expressing similar thoughts
Regarding a lack of drive
To continue
On the present path

Unfortunately,
I’m done will never
Get it done
So the routine continues
With ambivalence from the learners
With reticence from the educators
With consternation from the bosses
With anger from the elders

Through it all
I cringe
Because it’s supposed to be about learning
Which is fun
It’s not supposed to be about assignments
SOLs
Walk throughs
Or taxes
School is supposed to be about preparing kids to function

What happened?

“I’m done.”
